INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAC NOVICES ON HOW TO ALLOCATE EXTRA RAM FOR SNDSAMPLER™
Note: the following procedure should be undertaken BEFORE you start using SndSampler™.
To give SndSampler™ more RAM, click once on the SndSampler™ icon, so that it appears darkened, as shown below.
Then press the keys and I at the same time. (Or you can go to the File menu and choose Get Info.)
A little window will appear which will allow you to enter a number for SndSampler™’s preferred amount of RAM, as shown below. This window is known as the Info Window.
(Note that the picture shows how the Info Window looks in System 7. If you are running System 8 or System 9, i.e. Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9, it will look slightly different. Also note that this picture is kind of old, so the actual numbers for Suggested, Minimum, and Preferred sizes will be a little higher than shown.)
Click in the Preferred size text box, then type in how much RAM (values are in K = 1024 bytes) you want SndSampler™ to have.
Try not to set it higher than the amount of free RAM available (as shown when you choose “About This Computer...” from the Apple menu). Also, don’t set it lower than the Minimum size as shown in the Info Window.
If you want to be able to give SndSampler™ as much RAM as possible, quit all other applications before using SndSampler™.
